FA Cup semi-Final Preview Posted On 16 April 2021

Four teams battle it out to reach the 2021 FA Cup Final

Man City v Chelsea. Saturday, 5.30 pm

Pep Guardiola’s Man City go into this game knowing they are closing in on an unprecedented quadruple, while Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea have found form under their new manager at the business end of the season. Man City look set to clinch the title within the next few weeks, while Chelsea are only one point from the Champions League places.

With the quadruple at the back of his mind, and the league all but wrapped up, expect Man City to put out a strong squad, however, with the games coming thick and fast, and after their Champions League win over Dortmund earlier this week, expect some rotation.

Chelsea meanwhile have some tough games coming up if they are to qualify for the Champions League this year. They still have to play West Ham, Man City (again) Arsenal, Leicester, oh and a Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid. It is yet to be seen where Tuchel will prioritise, however one would expect the FA Cup is at the bottom of the list.

Predicted Result – Man City 1 – 0 Chelsea

Leicester v Southampton. Sunday, 6.30 pm

While Man City v Chelsea looks like the blockbuster fixture this weekend, expect Leicester v Southampton to be the better game. Southampton are pretty much guaranteed Premier League football again next year, while Leicester sit third in the league and should qualify for the Champions League next year.

For both clubs, this will be their biggest game of the season, (besides the final) and Brendan Rodgers has some tough decisions to make. James Maddison, Hamza Choudhury and Ayoze Perez were all excluded last week due to breaking Covid regulations, and it is yet to be seen if they will be recalled for this massive game.

Southampton meanwhile have little to play for in the league, so can field a strong squad. Expect a full-hearted battle from the Saints who will be looking to put a disappointing season behind them. However, with top scorer, Danny Ings, just coming back from injury, goals may be hard to come by.

Predicted Result – Leicester 2 – 1 Southampton
